An expert in dental implants and removal of wisdom teeth, Oral Surgeon Clem Pellett is at the forefront of advanced oral and dental medicine. At his practice, The Center for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Dr. Clem Pellett and his expert staff have helped thousands of Seattle area patients. In existence since 1984, Dr. Clem Pellett's practice has been an important part of the community. Since 1991, Dr. Clem Pellett's practice has also been AAAHC accredited, and it is the first practice on the West Coast to receive such a designation. This accreditation is earned by taking part in a voluntary quality assessment program. Dr. Clem Pellett feels this is important for instilling patient confidence in the practice, as well as motivating staff members to seek excellence. Additionally, this designation means that all practices of the surgery center have been closely reviewed and found to meet national standards. Oral pathology is a particular specialty offered by Dr. Clem Pellett's practice. Dr. Clem Pellett is trained in detecting the onset of oral cancer early, and is very familiar with its warning signs, such as persistent sore throats or mouth lesions that do not heal quickly. Dr. Clem Pellett also has repaired many facial and dental injuries including broken teeth. Dr. Clem Pellett's surgery practice works with patients to either save damaged teeth or insert long-lasting implants made out of titanium or other modern materials. Dr. Clem Pellett learned these specialties through rigorous training at the Minnesota-based Mayo School of Graduate Medical Education, where he studied the proper techniques to treat jaw cysts, dental injuries, and impacted wisdom teeth, among other oral ailments. Dr. Clem Pellett has volunteered his services in Zimbabwe as part of Health Volunteers Overseas, a Washington D.C.-based nonprofit that brings quality health services to developing countries.

Dr. Clem Pellett Named One of Seattle’s Top Dentists for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
At The Center for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Bellevue, Washington, Dr. Clem Pellett performs a comprehensive range of surgical procedures for the treatment of conditions related to the face and mouth. A Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with more than 25 years of experience, Dr. Clem Pellett places the highest priority on delivering quality care to ensure optimal oral health for his patients.
In addition to operating the first oral surgery office on the West Coast to achieve certification from the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, Dr. Clem Pellett is proud to hold the distinction of being voted one of Seattle’s top dentists by Seattle Metropolitan magazine for three consecutive years. To compile the 2011 version of its annual list, Seattle Met collaborated with the survey company, TopDentists LLC, to send ballots to dentists in King, Kitsap, Pierce, and Snohomish counties, asking them where they would refer their own patients.
To better draw on respondents’ actual experiences, general dentists were asked to evaluate specialists and vice versa; each respondent could choose from a list of nearby practitioners or nominate other deserving individuals. After tallying the highest average ratings based on experience, physical results, patient care, use of advanced techniques, and continuing education, Seattle Met ascertained that each dentist was in good standing with the Washington State Department of Health and possessed an active license. The process resulted in a final list of 364 practitioners in the region, divided according to specialty.
As one of the 33 oral and maxillofacial surgeons in 16 cities selected for inclusion on Seattle Met’s list, Dr. Clem Pellett continues to work with his experienced staff to provide the best quality care to local consumers. As a member of the Beta Rho Chapter of the Sigma Chi Fraternity, I became a brother of the group during my time as a student at Montana State University. Sigma Chi was founded in late June of 1855 at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. The society’s foundation originated from the schism between members of the Delta Kappa Epsilon, and seven men decided to develop a new fraternity that would “promote the concepts of Friendship, Justice, and Learning; to build brotherhood and life long membership among members from all walks of life.” The seven founders hoped to build a society that would be accepting of all men worthy of such a mission. While the term “fellowship” was used to describe all fraternities, the founders of Sigma Chi strived to include true friendship as one of the society’s principles. Each member’s education was put before any social responsibilities, and Sigma Chi became dedicated to the pursuit of fair dealings in all campus relations. Sigma Chi now offers numerous scholarships and awards that help young men continue their education. The organization, which strongly relies on three principles of “friendship, justice, and learning,” aims to develop the world’s leaders of tomorrow by instilling honorable values in the students of today.
For nearly three decades, I have functioned as Head Oral Surgeon at the Center for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Bellevue, Washington. In that period, I have helped many patients maintain their smiles with the assistance of a dedicated and caring staff, offering comprehensive procedures such as wisdom teeth removal and dental implant surgery. I am also very proud to have served with Health Volunteers Overseas (HVO) in Zimbabwe, helping to train and educate local dental practitioners and improve their oral health care systems. HVO has been active internationally for nearly 25 years.
Spurred to action by an article by Dr. Ralph Crawshaw in the December 1984 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association, HVO undertook its first volunteer-led mission abroad in 1986, sending a group of anesthesiologists to Ethiopia. Since then, HVO has expanded operations to more than 25 developing countries, working to increase basic health care access and quality. In particular, HVO works to train, encourage, and sustain local health providers, enabling them to build an improved health care network. HVO’s efforts focus on diverse clinical specialties, including oral health, trauma and rehabilitation, essential surgical care, nurse anesthesia, infectious disease, dermatology, and burn management. The current HVO Oral Health program centers on seven hospitals worldwide located in health resource-poor regions of Cambodia, Honduras, Laos, Peru, Samoa, Rwanda, and Tanzania. Each program holds a different focus specific to the local oral health system and patient needs.
For example, HVO training undertaken at the EsSalud Hospital System in Peru focuses on maxillary bone and jawbone treatment, reconstruction of jawbone, and other related procedures. On the other hand, the training program at the National University of Laos in Vientiane focuses on a broader range of oral health issues, including oral pathology, periodontics, pediatric preventive dentistry, dental radiology, restorative dentistry, and oral surgery. It was a privilege to be able to volunteer with HVO in Zimbabwe, and I felt my efforts had an immediate impact in providing resources to improve the quality of local health care. Indeed, I was honored to receive the American Dental Association Certificate of Recognition for Meritorious Service to the People of Zimbabwe.
